I found this great post on Alas 3 lads blog, and she gave me permission to post it here as well! Enjoy!
It's time for Aloha Friday. A time to take it easy and post something quick and easy for you to answer.
My topic this week is school-night bedtimes. Our kids started back to school on Tuesday. I have to admit, it was a little bit of a shock to the system - getting back into the early morning routines. I'm a night owl by nature; I love to stay up late and then sleep in. During the summer, my kids are pretty much the same way. Now that school has started back, here's the schedule we aim for:
Our 8, 11, and 13 yr. olds in bed by 9:00 pm (they catch bus at 7:30 am and 8:30 am)
Our 16 yr. old in bed by 11:00 pm (he leaves for school at 6:30 am)
Here are my questions for you:
1. If you have kids, what are their bedtimes?
2. Do they have the same bedtime all year or do they change during the school year?
3. If you have more than one child, do you give them different bedtimes according to age?

1. If you have kids, what are their bedtimes? Alyssa is 16 and she sets her own bedtime. She has to finish homework after cheerleading practice which is every day, so it makes for long days. I feel that she is old enough to know when to go to bed. If she gets the chance, she goes to sleep at 7pm!

3. If you have more than one child, do you give them different bedtimes according to age? Just one WONDERFUL child! :o)
Happy Saturday Sharefest!

I have four children and they are supposed to be in bed by 9:00 p.m.
2. Do they have the same bedtime all year or do they change during the school year?
During the summer we let them stay up later.

13 yo, 11 yo, and 9 yo are all in bed by 9:00 p.m. We have an 18 month old that I have been breastfeedind since birth and he co sleeps with us. I'm in the process of trying to wean him out of our bed by the time he's 24 mos. I also am slowly weaning him from breastfeeding. He goes to sleep when we do. He doesn't stay sleeping in the bed if we aren't there. I have a bad habit of staying up late! After I get home from work usually around 5:30 I start to cook dinner, help the kids with homework, and they are usually finished with baths by the time dinner is ready. I also started a small business, so after they are all situated; I start to design. That keeps me up late alot! If the baby falls asleep and I put him down, he wakes up shortly after. If I lay with him and he falls asleep and I get out of bed, he wakes up shortly after. So, I try to get everything done while he's up and then we go to sleep togther but, it's usually really late. I'm working on this...
Any suggestions?
My girls are all grown up and on their own time now. They are out of the house living on their own. :-) But when they were home and in their teens, they both were upstairs in their rooms asleep or reading by 10:00. Weekend nights they were allowed to stay up later.
ReplyDeleteBTW....I just stopped in to say; Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest! :-)
Have a beautiful weekend.
My kids are 6 and 12, on school nights they need to be in bed by 9. The 12 yr old doesn't like that he has to have the same bed time as the 6 yr old....hhaha but the 6 yr old usually gets up on his own, while I have to NAG the 12 yr old up....go figure.
ReplyDeleteDuring the summer they do stay up later, during the school year they can stay up til around 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Baising bed time on age would seem logical, but I think in our case based on responsibility of getting up is more what I go by. I am harder on the oldest because he just doesn't want to get up!
